Ti Ascent 6.5 PRC

Description

The Ti-Ascent is built on a custom Lone Peak Titanium action mated to a premium Proof Research Carbon Sendero barrel. This barrel is custom chambered in 6.5 PRC by a renowned gunsmith. The action is glass bedded in a lightweight carbon-fiber stock with adjustable comb height for dialing in the perfect sight picture and cheek weld. The rifle delivers uncompromised fit, consistency, and reliable accuracy paired with the industry’s best magnum 6.5 cartridge.

The 6.5 PRC is one of the hottest new cartridges on the market. It’s a short action magnum case based on the .300 Ruger Compact Magnum that utilizes a 6.5 mm/.264 caliber bullet. The short/fat case is both efficient and consistent, delivering magnum performance nearly identical to the 6.5-284 in a short action cartridge. The PRC typically produces velocities that are 150 – 250 fps higher than the 6.5 Creedmoor at the muzzle. That’s a significant bump in performance, but it’s still a well behaved, low-recoil round that won’t torch barrels like some of the hotter 6.5 magnums out there. The 6.5 mm cartridges all benefit from a great selection of high-BC hunting bullets.

This cartridge is well suited to medium sized game like antelope, black bear, deer, sheep, caribou and even elk using bullets in the 140+ grain class with careful shot placement. Range on elk should probably be limited to 500 yards or less, although I’ve seen bulls taken at twice that range with the cartridge. While there’s not doubt that a 6.5 whether it be the Creedmoor or the PRC will work on elk, most seasoned experts prefer the larger 7mm and .308+ calibers for elk.

This rifle is built on a custom Titanium Lone Peak action and features an adjustable cheek piece to help you dial in the perfect sight picture and cheek weld. The first time we took this rifle out Dan was able to take a nice muley buck with a single, well-placed shot at 400 yards off the RRS TFC-34 tripod. The buck was DRT (down/dead right there)! The 143 ELDX performed perfectly. With a 26″ barrel and an optimized custom chamber this PRC easily runs 3050 fps with the 143 ELDX and has plenty of head-room to run hotter.
